Best Recreational Skates of 2019
IW staff chose the best recreational skates of 2019 based on comfort, ease and value.
K2 Alexis 80 Pro
Comfort: 10/10
K2's SoftBoot technology takes the cake on comfort. This 2019 model sports a new elastic stability band that runs across the ball of the foot that adds stability and comfort for narrow feet without adding pressure points for standard or wide feet.
Ease: 10/10
Easy to slip on, easy to secure the laces, easy to skate and easy to stop. The perfect package for recreational skaters
Value: 8/10
A little higher priced than some of the other options out there but with quality to support it. The specialized Pro speed lacing adds to the price tag but is a valuable feature. Decent quality wheels and bearings also have a leg up on the lower priced alternatives.
Stephanie's Thoughts: I'm really impressed with the 2019 Alexis Boot. I wasn't a fan with what they did to the boot in the last version but K2 stepped it up this year. The new fabric has a canvas feel that is comfortable and feels more durable than past models and the new elastic strap across the forefoot makes the skate feel more responsive without causing any problems for my wide feet!

Rollerblade Macroblade 80 ABT
Comfort: 9/10
Rollerblade's soft boot is comfortable and breathable.
Ease: 10/10
The ABT Brake takes the spotlight here. Unlike traditional skate brakes, the "Active Braking Technology" allows you to stop without removing any wheels from the ground. Coupled with the 80mm wheels and you get great control and stability, no matter what your skill level!
Value: 9/10
The added features add to the bottom line, but we jumped on a huge shipment of 2017 models to bring you this great skate for an amazing closeout price! Did we mention the only difference between the new and closeout model in the color? Score!

K2 Kinetic 80
Comfort: 7/10
This version of the K2 SoftBoot may not be as padded as the higher end models but it still packs a lot of punch in the comfort department. It's breathable and adapts to many foot shapes.
Ease: 9/10
The cuff and boot are entry quality so while they may not have quite as much support, the small wheel size makes up for it. The lightweight boot and frame help with fatigue while you get your "skate legs."
Value: 10/10
They may not have bells and whistles, but they get the job done. With K2's 1 year warranty and quality production, these are a great entry option.
