By Stan Chaves | August 2020

Inline skating has recently experienced a HUGE resurgence and it’s for good reasons. COVID-19 forced change to workout routines and many looked to outdoor activities like rollerblading. Inline skating is one of the most effective exercises for calorie burn, muscle engagement, and of course… Fun!

This popularity is fueled by returning skaters who are quick to realize, things have changed. Technology and skate selection have come a long way and returning skaters may face some of the same challenges new skaters do. Expectations

The truth is, it’s not like riding a bike. It’s unrealistic to think your ability and skills haven’t changed. You are not the same person (or skater) and that is ok. Be honest with your current comfort level and tailor your expectations. Choose a skate based on your current ability and environment (i.e. straight-line fitness skating instead of park skating). Purchasing a skate that does not match your needs can turn you off. If it is easy you will skate longer, better and have more fun. Once you get your skate legs back, you can always upgrade and/or take advantage of built-in technologies to increase performance.

Fixing Up Old Skates

Returning skaters often have an old pair collecting dust in the garage. The first instinct is to get new wheels and bearings and hit the road, but you would be doing yourself a huge disservice. Taking advantage of new technologies that will make skating faster, smoother, easier and more fun. Wheel technologies and sizes have changed to smooth out rough surfaces and maintain better roll. This is not just a play to sell new skates. Buying new wheels and bearings can often amount to the same cost (or close) as a new pair of skates!

Lets Do This!

Now that you know the basics, use the Inline Warehouse Skate Filter to quickly narrow your search. Let’s keep the skates on your feet and out of the garage. The pavement is calling!
